Working Out: Week One of the Killer Booty Quest

You guys. I have some exciting news to share. Well, at least it’s exciting to me. I have been to the gym five times in the last seven days. FIVE TIMES. That’s HUGE. Before this past week, I hadn’t been to the gym five times in the last year.

I know it’s only been a week, but doing hardcore workouts is making me feel like a new person. I have so much more energy, I feel better, I’m sleeping better. I’m even craving healthier foods, believe it or not. I hate to act like I’m drinking the Kool-Aid, but I kind of am. And boy, is it tasty.

So what am I doing?

Well, I haven’t done the same workout twice yet. I’m focusing heavily on lifting weights over cardio, because I think that will have the biggest impact for my body type and my goals.

And my big focus is really the booty. I don’t know if I’ve ever said this (I’m sure I have) but a mom butt is one of my biggest fears about getting older. I am one hundred percent serious right now. It’s completely illogical, but my mind thinks that if I can keep my booty young, I won’t age.

So every workout does include some kind of squats. And lots of successive lifting, so that my heart rate stays high for the entire workout. I give myself one hour to accomplish as much as I possibly can. And it seems to be working!

But back to the whole mom butt thing. I was hanging out on Instagram one day and came across a young body builder – Katy Hearn. I don’t know her, she doesn’t know me. But she has the workout magic, let me tell you. Check out her feed the next time you don’t want to go to the gym – trust me, it’ll motivate you.

I’m not looking to participate in the next mommy fitness competition – but I can tell you that working out needs to be a stronger priority in my life. If nothing else, to prevent the sag.

How do I find the time?

That’s a great question. I’m lucky enough to have a very flexible schedule, so I can start working early in the day and also work later in the evening after my little guy goes to bed. So I just make it a priority to get to the gym. It’s certainly not easy – it means that I am literally working on something or playing with Ricky from the moment I get up until pretty an hour before we go to bed. But I have to tell you something: I’m happier this way. So it’s totally worth it.

for the record, this is in the midst of doing squats ON the Bosu ball. Mama’s kicking butt. Literally.
