Things I Love: The Best Beauty Products to Start Out Your 2013

I’ll be the first one to admit that life is busy. Between being everything that life throws at me, I know that every once in a while I need to do a little something for me. And one of my favorite ways to do that is through amazing beauty products that give me an excuse to take some time for myself or add a little pretty to my life. Or both – because those things have a tendency to go hand in hand. So here you go: the best beauty products you need for your collection. Some I received as gifts for the holidays, some are my all time favorites. Some even came from Target. No joke. Enjoy – and happy shopping!

Village Naturals Body Wash: This stuff is amazing. I discovered it when I was pregnant and haven’t been able to get enough of it since. I love the lavender scent because, well – I’m totally obsessed with lavender, it’s the most relaxing scent in the world. I’ve got my sister hooked on the citrus-y orange. And when this company claims that this body wash is ultra moisturizing, they’re not lying. I can tell a noticeable difference when I use this versus other body wash products. Their bath milk jugs are amazing, too. Bonus: all of their products are at Target or the like. And you can get them for less than five bucks each. Loves it!

Moroccan Oil Hair Mask: I can’t get enough of this product. Living in the frozen tundra, the dry winter weather can really do a number on your hair {and your skin}. This hair mask is a little spendy, but it’s worth every penny. It’s uber moisturizing, your hair will be the kind of soft and silky that you’ve always dreamed of it being. If you’re a blonde, it’s especially a necessity. Bleaching your hair, even if you do it via highlights, is extra drying on your lovely locks. If you want to keep your hair looking it’s best, it needs to be healthy. And you can achieve that through this mask! Bonus: the smell is off the charts. You may or may not catch me sniffing pieces of my hair for a full 48 hours after using this stuff…but that’s a story for another day.

YSL Rouge Volupte Shine: Three words – best lipstick ever. This is honestly the most moisturizing product for my lips – besides the Aveda Lip Saver – that I’ve ever used. It’s not a true lipstick, either. It adds a hint of color, but nothing too over the top. Some have a little shimmer in them, others don’t There’s honestly a color that works for everyone – although I’ve now tried multiple colors from this line and I love them ALL. No joke! Bonus: the container it comes in is beautiful. I love having something this pretty in my handbag!

Laura Mercier Kohl Eye Pencils: These are my favorite eye liners ever. Yes, you do have to sharpen them yourself – but they go on so smooth that you won’t even care about that. {Besides, pencils that you have to sharpen last longer than the twisty eye liners.} Unlike other kohl pencils, this one is easy to blend but won’t smudge after you apply it, which I love. Bonus: it comes in an array of gorgeous colors. Spice up your look!

Aveda Lip Saver: After RJ was born, my lips were chapped all the time. It didn’t matter what I did – I tried using tons of different lip balms, vaseline, even olive oil to combat it. Finally, I found this awesome Aveda lip balm – the Aveda Lip Saver. It’s about eight bucks a tube and it’s the best lip balm I’ve ever used. Since I started using it a month or so ago, I haven’t had any problems with dry lips. Totally, totally worth it. Bonus: it smells like all of the Aveda products do – which is to say totally delish. I love that smell – I even have an Aveda scented candle at my house – so this is definitely a perk of this product, at least for this mama!

Loreal Telescopic Precision Liquid Eyeliner: I’ve never been much for liquid eyeliners. They’re generally messy and achieve too harsh of a look for my day to day life. But this summer I read about the best eyeliners on the market – and this Loreal liquid eyeliner was listed as one of them. Since it was less than ten bucks – and I love trying out new products – I decided to give it a go. And seriously, it’s the best. I love that it’s super easy to apply. It works really similarly to a felt tip pen – which makes it go on super smooth. This lets you get a really straight, even line. To soften the line’s appearance, I either use a small makeup brush or apply a kohl liner over the liquid liner. It has a pretty cool effect!
