So back in the day – well, about six months ago – when my little man was around eight months old, he started standing while holding the furniture. He would take a few steps while hanging onto the couch. We thought for sure he was going to walk by ten months. But then the ten month marker rolled around, and he really wasn’t that interested in walking. He loved to crawl, he’d walk three or four steps, but nothing more. So, we waited.
Then he turned a year. And still wasn’t all that interested in moving on his feet. He could crawl, man. And that really seemed to be enough for him. I worked with him, of course. I figured that eventually, he’d get the hang of it. Then at the end of October, Reebok sent us a pair of matching tennies. For my little man, they sent the new VentureFlex shoe – a sneaker that’s designed just for kids his age, and comes JUST in sizes 2-10.
The first thing I noticed was the color My little man LOVES him some bright, neon colors. Then, I noticed the elasticity of the laces. After struggling with getting other shoes on and off of his feet easily, this was a welcome change! Next, I saw how flexible the shoe was. Kind of like a cross between a solid tennis shoe and a soft soled walking shoe. Finally, after getting the shoes on his feet, I realized that the toe was wider than other shoes – allowing him to spread his foot more as he learned to walk, helping him to find his balance.
So we put the shoes on. And within an hour, Ricky was scooting around the house on his feet. I’m not kidding you – he went from not caring about walking and randomly taking a few steps at a time to taking ten to fifteen steps at a time. Literally. An hour. Within a week, he was solid on his feet all.the.time. And I had a mobile toddler. We were flabbergasted.
I realize that part of this was his age and the fact that he was ready to start walking. But I truly attribute part of this to the actual shoe – I really believe that it is designed in a way that specifically helps little ones stabilize themselves and learn to walk. Amazing. Love.
So: where can YOU get your hands on a pair of these shoes? Try FinishLine, one of the major retailers that carries them.
